NEXT TASTER DAY - 23 JANUARY 2018

OUR COURSES

Our courses are tailored very much to meet individual needs and are geared to your own learning speed and requirements, catering for the complete beginner to the more experienced groomer. All tuition is to C&G standards.

Training provided is intensive, with a great deal of time being spent on practical work. Training can be taken in stages rather than as a one-off course should that be required.

Practical Training

During your practical training you are provided with 'model dogs' to work on. The range of breeds used will be as wide as possible with you being responsible for the grooming and trimming of these dogs from start to finish.

You will also learn how to deal with various coat types, learn how to correctly undertake a health check, check and clean ears as necessary, and check and correctly trim nails.  It is no longer recommended that anal glands should be expressed routinely in the grooming salon, but you will be given guidance regarding this topic.

Demonstrations and supervision are provided throughout this time by your tutors.

Theory

This is covered in a manual, which is yours to take home. Subjects covered include setting up and running a grooming business, legislation, record keeping, customer relations, health and hygiene, first aid, anatomy and diseases. We recommend that you study the manual during your stay where we are available to offer support and advice.

Back Up Service

We offer a full back-up service to all of our ex-students should they need help after they have completed their training. We are always available to offer help and advice over the telephone or by email should this be required.

Diploma

On completion of your course you are issued with a Diploma certificate.

Graded Certificates

Students reaching the required standard will be awarded a graded certificate.

Certificate of Excellence in Handling and Control

As promoters of excellent handling within the Grooming Industry, we will award this certificate ONLY to students who demonstrate sympathetic but effective handling throughout their course, with NO signs of loss of temper or impatience at any time.

Assessments

All students are constantly assessed throughout their course and will be provided with a daily assessment sheet on the work they have carried out.

Assessment Days

We can offer assessment days for the C&G examination.

Course Duration

Courses are run throughout the year with dates and duration tailored to meet individual needs, from 1 day to 3 months. We recommend a minimum of 25 days if you wish to start your own business.  As dog grooming is currently an unlicensed industry, it is not currently a requirement to hold a qualification, so you do have the option to complete your training then become qualified at a later date if this is more suited to your budget.  Please note the City & Guilds qualification was changed with effect from 1 September 2017 and it is now an enrolment requirement to hold the Level 2 before completing the Level 3, although we can incorporate both of these qualifications into one training course.  Please contact us for information on completing the new City & Guilds qualifications - the Level 2 (7763-02) and the Level 3 (7863).

Please note the old style City & Guilds L3 to including the Introductory and the Professional Diploma qualification was discontinued on 31 August 2017, but those of you who are currently enrolled have 3 years from date of enrolment to complete the qualification.  It is no longer possible to re-enrol for this qualification once your 3 years has expired.

Accommodation

There is plenty of good quality accommodation locally, from £25 upwards. Please ask for details.

Examination Centre

We are an examination centre for the City & Guilds Advanced practical exams and the Higher Diplomas. Contact the Pet Care Trust direct for dates and enrolment ( www.petcare.org.uk )

new to the industry.  It is an important
grounding in learning the fundamental basics to working in a grooming salon,
including bathing and drying dogs, maintaining equipment, how to control and
restrain dogs, and maintaining cleanliness and biosecurity.  It is also a progression route to the 7783-03
qualification and is a pre-requisite to the new Level 3 7863-03 qualification.

    Assessment:  Online
test and salon-based practical assessment and theory assignments.

    Level 3 (7783-03)

qualification is aimed at you.  It covers a range of topics such as health and safety, legislation, customer service, preparing, styling and finishing a dog, health checking, first aid, common diseases and disorders and handling a dog in a dog grooming environment.  This will allow you to gain the practical skills and knowledge to ensure that you are fully prepared to work as a Professional Dog Groomer as either self employed, working for a business or franchise, and be either based in a salon or a mobile unit. The externally set practical assessment contains a number of tasks including
styling dogs with a range of coat types and demonstrating first aid.  Please note it is a prerequisite that you must have completed the Level 2 City & Guilds Certificate for Dog Grooming
