The Level 2 and Level 3 combined course is an efficient and cost effective way of becoming a fully qualified dog groomer in one course, fully preparing you for your career as a dog groomer and enabling you to become a member of the Groomers Spotlight (the UK platform for fully qualified dog groomers, also offering many perks and benefits). This qualification will mean you are fully prepared if and when licensing for dog groomers comes into being.

The City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants is aimed at people new to the industry. It is an important grounding in learning the fundamental basics to working in a grooming salon. The City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma for Dog Grooming is aimed at people continuing their studies in the Dog Grooming industry. This will allow you to gain the practical skills and knowledge to ensure that you are fully prepared to work as a Professional Dog Groomer as either self-employed, working for a business / franchise in a salon or a mobile grooming unit.

This 60 day course will be overseen by a qualified dog grooming tutor who will provide detailed direction for your grooming and practical work, and prepare you for your practical assessments and written exam.

We provide students with a course folder to help with the information needed to be successful in this course, recommended reading lists and revision booklets for students to work through.

Over the course of 52 salon days, you will learn:

• bathing and drying dogs

• maintaining equipment

• how to control, restrain and handle a dog in a dog grooming environment

• clipper and scissor work

• hand stripping

• maintaining cleanliness and biosecurity

• health and safety

• legislation

• customer service

• preparing, styling and finishing a dog to a professional standard

• health checking

• first aid

• common diseases and disorders

Theory

We offer theory sessions if required or can support students to cover theory at home if you would prefer to make the most of your time in the salon on practical work grooming dogs. Your preference will be discussed with you on course commencement, but you will be fully supported throughout your course.

We provide recommended reading materials and revision booklets for students to work through.

We provide online support via a student chat group with a revision plan and regular test papers, commencing several months before the theory exam, to assist you with your revision for the Level 3 theory exam.

Assessment

Practical assessments cover health checks, first aid and grooming of dogs with different coat types and for different requirements.

You will undertake a written short answer exam which covers the knowledge and understanding within the qualification.
